Ben Saunders, who captured the hearts of many as the winner of the inaugural season of The Voice of Holland in 2011, has passed away at the age of 43. His body was recovered on Tuesday, September 15, from the Rijkerswoerdse Plassen, a well-known recreational lake situated in Elst, Netherlands. Police investigators have officially ruled out foul play in connection with his death, as confirmed by authorities on Wednesday, September 16. While the specific cause of death has not yet been publicly disclosed by the Netherlands' public broadcaster NOS, the investigation has concluded foul play was not involved. Tributes have poured in from loved ones and former colleagues. His brother, Dean Saunders, shared his profound grief on social media, writing, "My dear little brother passed away today... I have never felt pain like this before." Former coach Marco Borsato also expressed his sorrow, calling Saunders a "dear, special man" and sending condolences to his fiancée, Janita, and other family members.
