Voice Star Trades Mic for Mallet
26 Feb
Summary
- Former Voice UK finalist returned to trade after music industry struggles.
- He was offered 12 months of free therapy post-show by ITV.
- Callum Doignie continues to perform with his band despite solo challenges.

Callum Doignie, a finalist on The Voice UK in 2023, has reverted to his profession as a builder and plasterer, stepping away from his dreams of music stardom. Doignie, who was mentored by Sir Tom Jones on the ITV show, found breaking into the music industry post-competition to be a significant challenge.
He revealed his return to tradesmanship via TikTok, acknowledging the stark contrast between performing with Sir Tom Jones on national television and plastering walls. Although ITV did offer participants twelve months of free therapy following the show, Doignie indicated that financial considerations, such as the cost of agents, were a deterrent.
Despite the solo career hurdles, Doignie remains actively involved in music. He continues to perform with his band, Callum and The Pookies, and they have scheduled upcoming shows across Birmingham and Shropshire. The band has also been releasing original music since last year.
Meanwhile, the future of The Voice UK itself appears uncertain, with reports suggesting its fourteenth series has been postponed by ITV for at least the second time, potentially moving to autumn 2026 at the earliest. This delay raises questions about the show's long-term viability.
