Summary
- Virtual tour captures former BBC Elstree Centre studios before demolition.
- Iconic shows like The Muppet Show were filmed at the Borehamwood studios.
- New high-end TV and film facilities are expected by late 2027.

A comprehensive digital record of the former BBC Elstree Centre studios has been created through an immersive online tour. This project captures the spaces where iconic television shows, including The Muppet Show, Holby City, and Top of the Pops, were produced.
Over 400 panoramic images were taken before the buildings were demolished for redevelopment. Howard Berry, leading The Elstree Project for 16 years, described this as the first such capture of a British studio complex. The project involved a crew of 12 from the University of Hertfordshire.
Notably, The Muppet Show, often mistakenly believed to be filmed in America, was produced in Borehamwood. The virtual tour has elicited emotional responses from industry professionals, including Gonzo performer Dave Goelz, who saw spaces he worked in again.
The BBC Elstree Centre campus, which opened in 1914, is undergoing redevelopment. New campus facilities for the high-end TV and independent film industry are anticipated to be operational by late 2027.
