Summary
- Music teacher lost students during pandemic, became security guard.
- Viral singing video led to termination from guard job.
- Online support now helping him rebuild teaching career.
Shovon Chakraborty, a trained music teacher from Kolkata, faced significant hardship after losing students during the pandemic. He transitioned to a security guard role in 2023 to make ends meet. His situation took a difficult turn in July when a video of him singing Rabindra Sangeet, recorded during his off-duty hours, went viral on social media.
Despite his dedication, the housing society where he worked terminated his employment, citing concerns about his singing and body odor. This dismissal was a second major blow after the pandemic had already decimated his teaching income. However, the viral video also sparked widespread online support for Shovon.
This public recognition has now begun to help him rebuild his life. He has secured around six new students, whom he travels to teach via cycle. Shovon has expressed gratitude for the support but insists he does not want financial aid, preferring to receive referrals for students and requests fair fee negotiations.
