Last month, the Vidarbha region proved that creativity is thriving beyond the art capitals of Mumbai and Pune. From November 1st to 4th, The Art Vault—a premier exhibition organized by the Mahakalp Artists' Academy—showcased the work of 56 artists from across the Vidarbha region at the Chitnavis Centre in Nagpur.
The exhibition, themed "Small but Something," provided a platform for these regional artists to showcase their talents and offered Nagpur residents an opportunity to purchase original, high-quality art at affordable prices. Vijay Farkase, the academy's president and an acclaimed photographer, emphasized the goal of making art accessible to art enthusiasts while giving Vidarbha's artists a platform on par with the niche galleries of major cities.
The exhibition featured a diverse range of artistic expressions, from veteran art director Nana Misal's blue-themed collection blending old-world charm with abstract modernism to Shivani Bhawsar's eco-print series that literally prints nature onto canvas. The organizers also revealed plans for a 15-acre art campus at Ramtek, which could function as a regional branch of the Lalit Kala Akademi, providing studios, open-air spaces, and workshops to nurture the region's artistic talents.
