Derelict Victorian Baths Reborn with Light Show
21 Jul
Summary
- Historic Victorian bath house now hosts immersive sound and light installation.
- Plans aim to reopen the restored building as an arts, dance, and music venue.
- The venue will be 'citizen powered' with community input on future events.

The historic Pump Room at Jacob Wells Baths in Bristol's Hotwells district recently opened its doors to showcase an immersive sound and light installation. This event offered the public a unique opportunity to explore the Grade-II-listed building during its ongoing restoration.
Trinity Community Arts (TCA), which secured a 35-year lease in 2023, aims to transform the baths into a world-class arts, dance, and music venue by 2029. The Cast Light installation, created by artist collective Squidsoop, featured towering columns of light and an expansive soundscape, breathing new life into the space.
Originally opened in 1889 as a bathhouse for the poor, the building has a rich history, including a period as a community dance centre before its closure in 2018. TCA plans to host more events, such as candlelight concerts and exhibitions, before the official 2029 reopening, ensuring the building remains animated throughout its restoration.
