In just a few days, the city of Barmer in Rajasthan will come alive with the vibrant Thar Festival, a two-day celebration of the region's rich cultural heritage. The festival, scheduled for October 8-9, 2025, is being jointly organized by the tourism department and Barmer district administration, with the aim of showcasing Barmer as a burgeoning tourism hub.
The festivities will kick off on October 8th with a grand procession from Gandhi Chowk to Adarsh Stadium, followed by a lineup of captivating cultural performances. Visitors can look forward to witnessing traditional dances like Kalbeliya, Ghoomar, and Kachchi Ghodi, as well as Rajasthani bhajans and folk songs. The festival will also feature exciting competitions, including the coveted titles of Miss Thar and Mr Thar Shri, along with events like camel decoration, tug of war, and the Panihari Matka race.
On the second day of the festival, the action will shift to the historic Kiradu, where more cultural presentations by local artists will take center stage. In the evening, the festivities will culminate with a grand showcase of folk art and music at Mahabar ke Dhore.
Barmer district collector Tina Dabi has spearheaded the organization of this event, with the theme 'Rang Registan Ke' (Colours of the Desert) set to capture the essence of the region's vibrant culture and stunning landscapes. The Thar Festival promises to be a truly immersive experience, offering visitors a glimpse into the rich heritage and traditions that make Barmer a truly unique destination.
