Kunal Kemmu's Vibe: Slacker Comedy Meets Spy Thriller

Kunal Kemmu's sophomore directorial effort, 'Vibe,' attempts a unique fusion of slacker comedy and espionage thriller. The film is set in Mumbai in 2023 and centers on Hardik, recently out of rehab, and his best friend Bugs, a tech geek. Their lives take a chaotic turn after a planetarium date goes awry, thrusting them into a high-stakes mission.

Summoned by a mysterious Madam H, played by Preity Zinta in a striking dual role, the duo is tasked with uncovering intel about an impending terrorist attack on Mumbai. Despite their lack of qualifications, Hardik and Bugs find themselves dodging danger and making a hash of the mission, leading to a shift from comedy to a more solemn tone.

While 'Vibe' doesn't quite capture the wild lunacy of Kemmu's directorial debut, 'Madgaon Express,' it benefits from Kemmu's energetic performance and a handful of witty gags and one-liners. Sparsh Shrivastava provides solid support as the tech geek friend. The film culminates in a climax where chaos ensues, bringing 'Vibe' back to its madcap roots, with notable cameos from Sharmila Tagore.
