Veteran Singer Akon Arrested on Warrant for Missed Court Appearance

On November 6, 2025, popular singer Akon was arrested in Alpharetta, Georgia on an out-of-state warrant for his failure to appear over a suspended license. The 52-year-old musician, whose real name is Aliaune Thiam, was released from custody later that same day after complying with the arresting officers.

Akon's legal troubles come at a time when he was planning a major comeback in the music industry. In an interview just a few months ago, Akon had expressed his desire to "reshape music back to feel-good music" and create nostalgic tracks that would become "classics" for listeners. However, the arrest has now overshadowed his efforts to revive his career.

Akon's personal life has also been in the spotlight, as he is currently in the midst of a divorce from his wife of 28 years, Tomeka "Amirror" Thiam. Thiam filed for divorce in September 2025, citing irreconcilable differences and seeking joint legal custody and sole physical custody of their 17-year-old daughter.
