Veteran actor Rohit Bose Roy has found a new comfort zone in playing negative characters, a journey that began with his acclaimed performance in the 2017 film Kaabil. Rohit, who currently stars as the antagonist Spydro in the recently released Controll, reveals that his ease with grey roles didn't happen overnight.
In fact, Rohit had initially declined the role in Kaabil, unsure if he could pull off a negative portrayal. It was only after a push from his friend Sanjay Suri that he reconsidered and went on to deliver a standout performance as the villainous Amit Shellar. The overwhelming response to Kaabil and his subsequent role in Mumbai Saga helped Rohit embrace the layers and complexities of such characters.
Rohit's personal experiences with cybercrime have also influenced his latest role. He has been a victim of digital fraud twice, including an incident where his mother-in-law's entire bank account was wiped clean after falling for a scam. Rohit also recounts how his own Instagram account was hacked, a wake-up call that has made him more aware of the growing menace of cybercrime, a central theme in Controll.

As an actor, Rohit chooses roles based on the impact his character can make on the story, rather than the size of the project. He believes in pushing the envelope and refuses to be confined to the background, ensuring that his characters play a key role in driving the narrative forward.
