An immersive, interactive installation inspired by Eric Carle's "Very" series of books is set to reopen at the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh this spring. Titled "Very Eric Carle: A Very Hungry, Quiet, Lonely, Clumsy, Busy Exhibit," the exhibition will be available from May 23 through September 6. This engaging show, which first debuted at the museum in June 2015, has since traveled to 19 states and 27 venues, attracting over two million visitors.
The exhibition invites children and adults to explore Carle's nature-filled worlds through tactile environments and creative art-making. Visitors can trace the caterpillar's journey, create musical compositions with interactive insect murals, and design butterfly wings. Activities are designed to teach early learning concepts and moral principles such as patience and empathy, reflecting the themes present in Carle's celebrated books.
Central to the exhibit is an art studio where visitors can experiment with Carle's signature collage techniques, using various materials to create their own artwork. The show aims to introduce Carle's distinctive artistic style and storytelling to new audiences while rekindling a sense of appreciation for longtime fans. The museum plans to offer a memorable experience that encourages meaningful conversations and skill-building for all ages.
