Water Woes Halt Mahesh Babu's 'Varanasi' Underwater Scenes
4 May
Summary
- Film 'Varanasi' requires 150 water tankers for underwater scenes.
- Hyderabad faces a summer water shortage, impacting the film's shoot.
- Mahesh Babu plays multiple roles including Rudra and Lord Rama.

The highly anticipated pan-Indian film 'Varanasi,' directed by S.S. Rajamouli and featuring Mahesh Babu in multiple roles, is facing unexpected delays. A significant setback occurred when a request for approximately 150 water tankers, each with a 10,000-litre capacity, was reportedly rejected. This water supply was needed for filming underwater scenes at a specially constructed set near Rajendranagar.
Officials cited the ongoing summer water shortage in Hyderabad and the rising public demand for drinking water as reasons for denying the request. Although there has been no official confirmation of the incident, it has quickly gained traction online. The production team had reportedly offered to cover transportation and water purification costs.
Despite this temporary hurdle, anticipation for 'Varanasi' remains high. Mahesh Babu is slated to embody several distinct characters, including Rudra and Lord Rama. The film also boasts an ensemble cast featuring Priyanka Chopra, Prithviraj Sukumaran, and Prakash Raj, with music by M. M. Keeravani and a screenplay by Vijayendra Prasad.
