Varanasi Celebrates Krishna's Birth with Grandeur

On Friday, Varanasi was illuminated by the vibrant celebrations of Shri Krishna Janmashtami. "Jai Shri Krishna" and "Nand Ke Anand Bhayo, Jai Kanhaiya Lal Ki" resonated from temples, homes, schools, and police facilities. The Commissionerate Varanasi's Reserve Police Lines organized a significant religious and cultural program. This event commenced at 8 PM with devotional bhajans and cultural performances by police personnel and their families, showcasing Lord Krishna's divine stories through music and dance. The ceremony culminated with the birth ritual at midnight, followed by offerings and prasad distribution.

Police Commissioner Mohit Agarwal conveyed greetings, emphasizing Lord Krishna's life as a lesson in duty, truth, righteousness, and dedication to action, quoting "Karmanye Vadhikaraste." He encouraged personnel to perform their duties with sincerity for peace and security. At Banaras Hindu University, celebrations began at Malaviya Bhavan with puja, Krishna Katha, and Jhulanotsav, attended by Vice-Chancellor Prof Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi. Students at various university locations presented diverse tableaux, including Rasleela, Mallayuddha, and depictions of friendship and Krishna's various forms.

Further festivities unfolded across the city. Central Hindu Boys School presented scenes of Krishna's life, such as his birth in prison and the Govardhan Parvat incident. The Faculty of Education hosted a cultural event featuring bhajans, dance, and dramatic enactments of key Krishna stories like "Putana Vadh" and "Gita Updesh." Large congregations gathered at prominent religious sites like Gopal Mandir and the ISKCON Temple for Mahabhishek ceremonies involving 51 substances and offerings of 108 dishes.
