Newly resurfaced audition tapes from the early days of Vanderpump Rules highlight the tumultuous relationship between Stassi Schroeder and Jax Taylor. In her audition, Stassi referred to Jax as her soulmate, expressing certainty about their future together. Conversely, Jax's tape offered a more chaotic portrayal, describing Stassi's destructive tendencies while admitting a strange affection for it.

However, former castmate Kristen Doute revealed that the couple's actual breakup just before filming commenced led to significant editing challenges. To establish them as a couple, producers reportedly had to rely on older footage from a backdoor pilot episode.
