- Six Uruguayan films in post-production will be showcased.
- The initiative connects filmmakers with international industry professionals.

The 15th edition of Locarno Film Festival's First Look, a post-production platform for international arthouse films, will focus on Uruguay. Scheduled during the 79th Locarno Film Festival from August 5 to 15, 2026, the initiative will showcase six Uruguayan feature films in post-production. This collaboration with ACAU provides producers direct access to sales agents, buyers, festival programmers, and post-production funds.
Organizers noted Uruguay's increasing visibility on the international festival circuit. Past Uruguayan films and co-productions have been featured in various festival sections. Artistic director Giona A. Nazzaro emphasized the "urgent need for new voices," stating that focusing on Uruguay "broadens our horizons." Markus Duffner, director of Locarno Pro, highlighted the initiative's role in supporting films in their final stages and advancing emerging filmmakers' careers.
Gisella Pevitali, president of ACAU, described Uruguay's featured role as a "strategic moment" recognizing national talent and the evolution of public policies. She believes this presence elevates Uruguay's global standing, positioning it as a hub for co-productions and a significant contributor to Ibero-American cinema. Producers can apply until May 6, 2026, with a rough cut of at least 60 minutes. Selections and jury members will be announced in July, with awards presented on August 9, 2026.
