Actress Upasana Singh recently revealed a significant past casting near-miss for the iconic role of Suman in Sooraj Barjatya's 1989 film 'Maine Pyar Kiya.' Singh, then a determined aspiring heroine studying in Chandigarh, auditioned for the part. She recalled meeting director Sooraj Barjatya, who was impressed by her audition and indicated her selection.
Following this, she met Raj Kumar Barjatya, Sooraj's father. Although she returned to Chandigarh expecting confirmation, she never received a call, and the role ultimately went to Bhagyashree. Singh admitted to feeling deeply heartbroken and avoided watching the film for a long time due to her disappointment.
Years later, while working on 'Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon' in Switzerland, Singh finally learned the reason for her rejection. Raj Kumar Barjatya disclosed to cast and crew that Singh was the first choice but was deemed too tall to be paired with Salman Khan. Singh expressed her anger, questioning the decision, to which Barjatya jokingly added she might have left the industry like Sridevi if cast.
