25 Apr
Summary
- Director Unnikrishnan withdrew his resignation as FEFKA general secretary.
- FEFKA members unanimously requested him to continue in leadership.
- Rising production costs and actor interference in filmmaking were discussed.

Mollywood director B Unnikrishnan has rescinded his resignation as the general secretary of the Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA). This reversal occurred following an emergency general council meeting held in Kochi. The members of the federation, which represents 21 film-related trade unions, unanimously urged Unnikrishnan to continue in his leadership role.
Unnikrishnan had previously cited personal reasons and a desire for more time for writing and teaching as his motivations for stepping down. However, the FEFKA council declined his resignation and requested both Unnikrishnan and FEFKA president Sibi Malayil to remain in their positions. The council agreed to Unnikrishnan's request for a redistribution of workload, allowing him to focus on strategic roles while delegating administrative tasks.
The meeting also served as a platform to discuss critical issues facing Malayalam cinema, including escalating production costs and budget overruns. Unnikrishnan voiced concerns about certain actors interfering in the editing process and attempting to 'ghost-direct' films, referencing a recent controversy. He stressed the importance of actors performing their duties without encroaching on the director's creative control. Furthermore, the federation highlighted the financial strain on producers, who are increasingly reliant on private moneylenders due to a lack of significant government or bank support.
