In a highly anticipated move, acclaimed writer and actress Ruth Jones is returning to the BBC with a new comedy series about middle-aged relationships. The untitled show, co-written and co-starring Steve Speirs (Stella), follows an unlikely friendship that blossoms between two people who meet at a knee trauma clinic.
The story centers around Clive, a 60-year-old widower and retired teacher, and Shelley-Ann, a 55-year-old environmental officer going through a bitter divorce. Despite their differences, the two form a close bond as they navigate the challenges of life after 50.
BBC comedy chief Jon Petrie expressed his excitement about the project, stating that the script felt "instantly special" when it landed in their inboxes. The series is a Tidy production for BBC1, BBC Wales, and iPlayer, commissioned by Nick Andrews, head of commissioning for BBC Wales, and Petrie. The commissioning editors for the BBC are Emma Lawson and Paul Forde.
With Jones' track record of creating heartwarming and relatable stories, this new comedy is poised to captivate audiences and explore the complexities of middle-aged relationships in a fresh and engaging way.
