In an exclusive announcement, Los Angeles-based film company Indican Pictures has acquired the North American rights for the French road movie 'Silver Star'. The film, directed by the French duo Ruben Amar and Lola Bessis, is set to have its theatrical release in North America on January 30, 2026.
This production marks the first time Bessis and Amar have collaborated behind the camera since their 2013 SXSW breakout 'Swim Little Fish Swim'. The pair first gained attention with their 2011 short film 'Checkpoint'.
'Silver Star' stars Grace Van Dien of 'Stranger Things' fame and rising talent Troy Leigh-Anne Johnson. The film follows Billie, a young African American woman recently released from prison, who kidnaps a pregnant, down-on-her-luck teenager named Franny during a failed bank robbery. However, after hearing about Billie's plight, Franny decides to forge an unlikely alliance and embark on a road trip to help Billie find the money she needs.
The film has already garnered attention, having played at the Deauville American Film Festival in France in 2024 and also screened at the Denver and Glasgow film festivals. It is set to be theatrically released in France by Wayna Pitch on November 26.
"We at Indican Pictures knew we wanted to bring this film to North America when we saw it at the Deauville Film Festival and were stunned to learn two French filmmakers had crafted a prescient look into the soul of America," said Indican Pictures' Randolph Kret.
