In a major acquisition, Universal has landed the spec script 'Baby Monster' from up-and-coming writer Alexis Jolly. The project is set to be produced by Studio 8's Jeff Robinov, who last collaborated with Universal's specialty label Focus on the Robert Eggers-directed horror film Nosferatu.
While the specific plot details of 'Baby Monster' are being kept under wraps, the script is described as an "all-audience adventure." Matt Reilly will oversee the project for Universal as it moves forward.
Jolly, who is represented by CAA, Writ Large, and Lichter Grossman, has previously written The Belly of the Beast, which has Andrew Haigh attached to direct and Ben Stiller and Colin Farrell set to star. That true-crime film will see Stiller portraying novelist Norman Mailer, who befriended convict Jack Henry Abbott, played by Farrell.
