U2's Stage Fright Canceled TGIF Crossover
17 Aug
Summary
- U2 pulled out of a planned ABC TGIF promotion last minute.
- The cancellation occurred due to the band's reported stage fright.
- The event was set to feature Boy Meets World star Danielle Fishel.

ABC's beloved Friday night lineup, TGIF, almost featured a major rock crossover event. In 1997, rock band U2 was slated to appear in live promotional spots during the popular sitcom block. The plan was to film the band during the launch of their PopMart Tour in Las Vegas, with "Boy Meets World" actress Danielle Fishel set to host the segment.
However, the ambitious promotion never materialized. According to Jim Janicek, the creator of TGIF, U2 members Bono and The Edge expressed extreme nervousness about the live TV appearance. This anxiety led the band to withdraw from the planned segment at the last moment, canceling what would have been a unique integration between a music tour and a television programming block.
