Banks shared the surprising origin of Santa SMiZE, whose real name is Kelly. Centuries ago, Kelly, a confectioner of ice cream from snow, lived at the South Pole with Claus. His jealousy over her fame led him to imprison her in ice and adopt her iconic red-and-yellow suit, eventually becoming Santa Claus. This lore, Banks suggests, requires a "Say Santa SMiZE" invocation for her release.

Beyond the captivating backstory, the song incorporates diverse cultural references, naming desserts like Haluhalo from the Philippines and Bingsu from South Korea.
