Tyla Cleared in "Water" Royalty Lawsuit
6 Feb
Summary
- Litigation over royalty splits for Tyla's hit song "Water" has concluded.
- Two plaintiffs voluntarily dropped their claims against Tyla and Sony Music.
- The producer Sammy SoSo remains the sole defendant in the case.

Tyla has been cleared of litigation concerning the royalty splits for her 2023 hit song "Water." An attorney representing Olmo Zucca and Jackson LoMastro filed a court notice on Thursday, February 5, voluntarily withdrawing their claims against the South African artist. The specifics of any settlement between Tyla and the plaintiffs were not detailed in the court filing.
This development follows the earlier dismissal of Sony Music Entertainment from the lawsuit in November. As a result, Sammy SoSo, the producer of "Water," is now the sole remaining defendant in the legal proceedings. Representatives for Tyla and the plaintiffs have not yet commented on the resolution.
Zucca and LoMastro, credited as composers, had alleged they also contributed to the production of "Water" and were thus entitled to master points, which would grant them recorded royalties. Their July lawsuit claimed they were deprived of at least $1 million in royalties due to top-line producer credits.
