The cancellation of the Nigerian show comes after some Nigerians on social media had called for a boycott, highlighting current bilateral tensions. These tensions are primarily fueled by months of anti-immigrant violence in South Africa, which has led to significant strain between the two nations.

High-ranking officials from both Abuja and Pretoria have met recently, underscoring the diplomatic friction. South Africa, an industrialized economy, attracts many immigrants, but high unemployment and crime often lead to immigrants being scapegoated for the nation's challenges. The violence has resulted in deaths of foreign nationals, prompting some African governments to repatriate their citizens, including approximately 1,500 Nigerians.
