In November 2025, TV writer and producer Eric Phillips is penning a new sci-fi novel titled 'Wild North' that is being primed for a screen adaptation. The book is set in the future Arctic, where the melting of the ice has led to a geopolitical race for untapped resources, devolving into warfare over oil.
The story follows a U.S. ship forced to survive alongside an eco-terrorist group sabotaging oil claims as international law crumbles. Phillips has described the novel as a blend of "Mad Max meets The Last Ship," blending hard sci-fi with bold messages.
Gungnir, a Los Angeles-based publisher, is releasing the book, which is based on a screenplay Phillips previously wrote. The novel and TV series will be developed concurrently, with Phillips collaborating with Gungnir editor Jim Krueger ahead of a planned winter 2027 release.
Phillips is known for his work on the Apple TV+ sci-fi drama 'For All Mankind' and an episode of Netflix's 'The Umbrella Academy.' Gungnir's founder Matthew Medney says the publisher shares Phillips' "deep passion for great sci-fi" and believes 'Wild North' will be "as cinematic as it is deeply human."
