Two years ago, in November 2023, popular television actor Rithvik Dhanjani opened up about a horrific casting couch experience he faced when he was just 20 years old. During a podcast interview, Rithvik recounted the unsettling incident that left a lasting scar on his impressionable mind.
Rithvik had gone to Mumbai's Aram Nagar, a hub for casting offices and auditions, when a "prominent" casting director approached him and claimed he was shortlisted. The director then insisted on taking Rithvik to his "office" on his bike, despite Rithvik having his own mode of transportation. Once they reached the location, Rithvik realized it was not an actual office, but a secluded, dark space. The director then began making unwanted advances, touching Rithvik inappropriately. Terrified, the young actor managed to escape the situation.
Rithvik was shaken by the experience and wanted to quit the industry altogether. However, with the support of a friend, he was able to move past the trauma. Now, two years later, Rithvik hopes that the post-#MeToo era has brought about positive changes, and he urges others who face such predatory behavior to speak up and seek justice.
