Summary
- True crime producers association now accepts international members.
- Three US companies and four other global indies have joined.
- Focus is on developing professional standards and victim protection.

The Association of True Crime Producers (ATCP) in the UK has officially opened its membership to independent producers from outside Britain, marking a significant step in its international expansion. This inclusive approach now welcomes three U.S. companies: Gennie Studios, My Entertainment, and Texas Crew Productions, alongside Perpetual from Australia, Southern Exposure from South Africa, Our Story from New Zealand, and Serial Maven Studios from Canada.
Established three years ago, the ATCP's core mission is to cultivate professional standards in true crime production. Members adhere to stringent guidelines focused on victim protection and actively participate in industry events and seminars. This internationalization aligns with the global reach of true crime content and the producers' recognition of the need for consistent standards across the industry.
The expansion comes as true crime programming experiences a notable boom worldwide, particularly in the U.S. and UK. The ATCP's proactive stance aims to prevent any potential decline in production quality. The association's formation was partly influenced by the tragic suicide of producer John Balson, who had been working on a Channel 4 series prior to his death, highlighting the critical need for industry support and ethical guidelines.
