Tribeca Enterprises is set to release five new films that represent the breadth of independent cinema. Among these is "Esta Isla," directed by Lorraine Jones Molina and Cristian Carretero. This film, which premiered at the 2025 Tribeca Festival, earned accolades for best cinematography, best new director, and the jury award. It offers a personal look at the Puerto Rican experience, touching on identity and legacy.
"Fwends," by Sophie Somerville, debuted at the 2025 Berlin Film Festival, securing the Caligari Award for its innovation. The film focuses on two friends navigating existential dread during a reunion weekend. "Mabel," directed by Nicholas Ma, follows an unlikely friendship between a pre-teen and a plant. It premiered at the San Francisco Film Festival and received the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation feature film award.
These titles join previously acquired films like "We Are Pat" and "Reeling." Jane Rosenthal, co-founder of Tribeca Enterprises, expressed pride in highlighting emerging filmmakers and groundbreaking stories. "Esta Isla" is noted as the first Puerto Rican film to win an Independent Spirit Award. All these films will be available digitally later this year.
