The Tribeca Festival will commence its 25th anniversary on June 3 with the premiere of a documentary focused on the legendary band Earth, Wind & Fire. The film, titled 'Earth, Wind & Fire (To Be Celestial VS That's the Weight of the World)', is directed by Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson. This marks Thompson's second documentary, following his acclaimed 2025 film about Sly Stone. Following the screening, the iconic R&B group Earth, Wind & Fire is scheduled to perform, joined by Questlove's own ensemble, The Roots. The concert will take place at the Beacon Theater in Manhattan.
The documentary aims to explore the enduring legacy, cultural impact, and musical contributions of Earth, Wind & Fire. It features unprecedented access to archival materials and highlights the creative vision of the band's founder, Maurice White. The group first rose to prominence in the early 1970s, achieving a string of charting albums and Top 10 R&B hits before their breakout No. 1 pop song 'Shining Star' in 1975. The film is slated to debut in the United States on HBO and will be available for streaming on HBO Max in 2026.
