A new six-part series inspired by Robert Louis Stevenson's classic novel "Treasure Island" is currently in production and will premiere on MGM+ in the United States and Paramount+ in the U.K. and Ireland. The adaptation charts the transformation of young Jim Hawkins from a sheltered boy into an emboldened pirate.
David Oyelowo is set to play the iconic pirate Long John Silver, with Hayley Atwell portraying Bess Hawkins. The series will also feature Jack Huston as Aaron Graham, Tomer Capone as Billy Bones, and Tom Sweet as Jim Hawkins. The narrative follows Jim and his mother as they acquire a treasure map, putting their lives in jeopardy and forcing them to navigate a perilous voyage.
The production is set across the Atlantic, in a Caribbean on the brink of revolution, and on Skeleton Island. It promises to explore timeless themes of conquest, greed, and coming of age, testing characters' resilience, loyalty, and identity. The series is a collaboration between Playground, MGM+, and Paramount+.
Paramount+'s Sebastian Cardwell described the adaptation as "a bold and atmospheric reimagining" with "fresh emotional depth and a striking contemporary edge." MGM+'s Michael Wright highlighted it as a "classic Hollywood storytelling crafted for a contemporary audience" brought to life by an "extraordinary ensemble cast."
