Megatron's Voice Actor Recalls Early Days

Frank Welker, the distinctive voice behind the villainous Megatron, is revisiting the creation of his character as The Transformers: The Movie celebrates its 40th anniversary with a theatrical re-release. Welker shares that he developed Megatron's unique vocal identity from the outset, finding the "big hunk of evil metal" appealingly different from his other roles. He described his contrasting voice against Peter Cullen's Optimus Prime as creating dramatic depth. Welker also fondly remembers his profound friendship with Cullen, whom he described as a "gift" with whom he shared "deep affection and respect."

These special 4K screenings, presented by Hasbro and Fathom Entertainment, are running until September 22nd. Some showings will include "Optimus Prime: Awakening," a new 12-minute short. This anniversary event offers both long-time fans a chance to reminisce and new audiences an introduction to the Transformers universe. Welker expressed his hope that the re-release brings joy and introduces the franchise's magic to a new generation.
