Appearing on the show's spin-off, Uncloaked, Stephen explained that his partner had expressed concern about his face in the castle environment. To counteract this, Stephen opted for loud and colourful clothing, hoping to shift focus downwards. He believed that by having contestants comment on his stylish outfits, they would be less likely to notice his face and suspect him as a traitor.

Stephen confirmed that while he genuinely enjoys fashion, its role in his deception was a significant factor. The show's host, Ed Gamble, even admitted that his primary question after each episode was about Stephen's jacket, highlighting the widespread impact of his bold style.
