Tracker Showrunner Teases Evolving Storylines, Avoiding Complacency

The CBS drama Tracker has seen significant changes to its ensemble cast in the lead-up to its third season. The show, which premiered in February 2024 to record-breaking ratings, follows the adventures of fictional survivalist Colter (played by Justin Hartley) as he travels the country solving missing persons cases.

In the season 2 premiere, the character of Teddi (played by Danielle Weigert) was written off the show, with her wife Velma (Abby McEnany) explaining that they needed some distance. Teddi was not mentioned again throughout the rest of the season. Additionally, actor Eric Graise, who played the hacker character Bobby, was noticeably absent for six episodes before returning, causing backlash from viewers.

Now, ahead of season 3, news has broken that both Graise and McEnany will not be returning to the show, at least for the time being. Showrunner Elwood Reid has promised that the series will continue to evolve, avoiding complacency. "The challenge is when you got to learn about them, which I thought was interesting. That's the challenge of the show is not having it fall into a formula," Reid told Us Weekly in May.

Reid emphasized that the show's core premise of Colter traveling to new locations and solving cases each week will remain, but the supporting characters and how they assist him will continue to change and develop. "Meeting these [local] weird characters is something we're going to try to do more of as the season goes on. Just Colter coming in and interacting with other characters. That's fun to see Justin flex those muscles with really good guest cast members," the showrunner teased.
