Toxic Film's OTT Rights Plunge Dramatically

The film Toxic, starring Yash and directed by Geetu Mohandas, is experiencing considerable financial challenges after its theatrical release on August 26, 2026. Despite global earnings of Rs 337.80 crore, its box-office performance is deemed underwhelming given its substantial budget and scale.

The film's post-theatrical strategy was predicated on a strong theatrical run to command a premium for its digital rights. Makers reportedly rejected an offer of around Rs 150 crore from leading streaming platforms, aiming for over Rs 200 crore, banking on Yash's star power.

However, with negative reviews and a less-than-stellar box-office reception, the valuation for Toxic's streaming rights has sharply declined. Current offers are reportedly as low as Rs 30 crore, with Zee5 making the highest bid so far, a stark contrast to the initial expectations.

Further complicating matters, the film's satellite rights are also unlikely to yield substantial returns due to its adult-oriented content, potentially hindering television broadcast. Amidst these financial struggles, the makers are reportedly contemplating a new edit of the film specifically for its OTT release in an effort to secure a better deal.
