In October 2025, it was announced that Dermot O'Leary's bestselling children's book series "Toto the Ninja Cat" is being adapted for the stage. The world premiere production, featuring puppetry and original songs, is set to open in April 2026 at the Mercury Theatre Colchester.
The "Toto the Ninja Cat" books, which have sold over half a million copies globally and been translated into 17 languages, follow the adventures of a courageous, almost-blind cat with incredible ninja skills. In the new stage adaptation, Toto and her cheeky brother Silver must use their wits to stop a deadly King Cobra that has escaped onto the streets of London.
After the initial run in Colchester, the production will travel to the Little Angel Theatre in London from May to July 2026, followed by a stint at the Mayflower Studios in Southampton in late July. Additional tour stops are planned for Bristol, Birmingham, Weymouth, Guildford, and Edinburgh, with more dates to be announced.
The adaptation is being brought to life by a talented creative team, including director Samantha Lane, composer Barb Jungr, and puppet designer Oliver Hyman. O'Leary, who is best known for hosting "The X Factor" and BBC Radio 2's Saturday breakfast show, is thrilled to see his beloved characters come to the stage.
