Top Gun's Wild Ride: Tom Cruise's Vomit-Inducing Jet Flight

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the iconic action film 'Top Gun.' Behind-the-scenes tales from its creation are resurfacing, including a memorable incident involving a fighter jet and Tom Cruise's commitment to the project.

Screenwriter Jack Epps Jr. and producer Jerry Bruckheimer shared their accounts. Epps recalled Navy pilots taking Cruise for a flight, unaware of his identity. The intense maneuvers caused Cruise to vomit, but he emerged exclaiming his love for the experience, solidifying his decision to star.

Bruckheimer elaborated, arranging the flight with the Blue Angels in El Centro, California. He noted Cruise's long hair at the time led pilots to tease him about giving the 'hippy' a real ride. After the flight, Cruise reportedly used a phone booth to call Bruckheimer and accept the role.

Cruise himself confirmed the incident in past interviews, stating he had decided to star early on but used the Blue Angels flight as leverage. He admitted to vomiting during the flight, a detail corroborated by Blue Angels pilot Curt Watson, who also noted Cruise's post-flight call from a phone booth.

Watson recalled giving Cruise a ride, including allowing him to fly the jet briefly. He later received a thank-you note from Cruise, who suggested the experience aided his character development. Both 'Top Gun' and 'Top Gun: Maverick' are currently in theaters worldwide for the anniversary.
