Summary
- Rhoda Magbitang won the 23rd season of Top Chef.
- She prepared a Filipino-inspired four-course meal for the finale.
- Magbitang remains humble, crediting her team and the Big Island.

Rhoda Magbitang, who arrived in California from the Philippines 25 years ago, has achieved a significant milestone by winning the 23rd season of "Top Chef." Currently the executive chef at CanoeHouse at Mauna Lani resort, Magbitang surprised many with her victory, which was announced earlier this month.
For the competition's finale, held in the Carolinas, Magbitang prepared a four-course meal showcasing Filipino cuisine, a departure from her usual offerings at the resort. Her menu included dishes like lugaw, torta, and a braised short rib kaldereta. A standout appetizer of roasted sweet potatoes with miso butter and uni particularly impressed the judges, including Chef Tom Colicchio.
Magbitang explained the appetizer paid homage to her culinary experiences in California, specifically her work with sea urchin. The win has resonated deeply within Hawaii's Filipino community, with Magbitang expressing pride in representing her heritage on a national stage. Her sister, Katrina, was present for the finale, a moment Magbitang described as kismet.
Despite the immense opportunities that come with winning "Top Chef," including a $250,000 prize, Magbitang intends to remain at Mauna Lani. She emphasized her desire to give back to her colleagues and honor the Big Island. Future plans include taking her mother to Switzerland and further culinary explorations.
