Top Chef Judge Simmons Embraces Constructive Criticism in New Era

As of October 2025, Simmons says her style has become more about "constructive criticism" rather than harsh reality TV-style commentary. She explains that the focus of Top Chef has shifted to be more about the food, cooking, and chefs themselves, rather than the drama that happens outside the kitchen.

Simmons reveals that the upcoming 23rd season of Top Chef, set to air in 2026, will mark the show's 20th anniversary. The season was recently filmed in the Carolinas, an area Simmons says the show has not previously explored. She describes the region's unique food culture and beautiful scenery, and promises that the chefs competing this season are "amazing and fun and up for the challenge."

Despite the high level of talent on the show, Simmons assures that the judges have never been "forced [to eat anything]" terrible, even in the early seasons when the show was still "figuring out the formula." She explains that with the caliber of professional chefs featured, "it's not about eliminating the worst dish every episode" as the food is consistently of such high quality.
