Gipsy Kings' Tonino Baliardo Honors Brother on New Album

Gipsy Kings founder Tonino Baliardo has released his latest album, 'Historia,' marking a significant celebration of his 40-year career in music. The album is described as a reflection of this extensive history, encapsulating the group's journey and impact on Catalan rumba. Baliardo's primary artistic intention with 'Historia' is to preserve the authentic sound and core essence of Catalan rumba, including the iconic Gipsy Kings guitars and flamenco style, ensuring its roots are maintained for future generations.

Central to 'Historia' is a deeply emotional tribute to Baliardo's late brother, Paco, conveyed through the instrumental track "Cielo." Baliardo expressed that this melody was a "final conversation through the strings of my guitar." His sons, Mikaël and Cosso, who have toured with him for years, were integral to the album's creation, embodying the family's lifelong connection to the music. This blend of tradition and familial legacy underscores Baliardo's guiding principle: music created from the heart.

Baliardo's approach emphasizes emotional honesty, believing that this genuine expression transcends language barriers and connects with audiences worldwide. The album's release on May 29, 2026, signifies a new chapter while firmly rooted in the group's rich past. With over 25 million albums sold globally, Baliardo attributes his sustained success to a pure love for family and the act of making music.
