The story centers on a decades-long creative partnership between two friends who find intimacy through video game development.
The novel, published in 2022, has achieved remarkable success, selling over 4 million copies globally and spending more than a year on The New York Times best-seller list. It explores themes of passion, heartbreak, and collaboration within the burgeoning video game industry of the late 20th and early 21st centuries.
Wyck Godfrey, Marty Bowen, and Isaac Klausner are producing for Temple Hill, with Zevin herself serving as an executive producer. Heder's screenplay builds upon earlier drafts by Mark Bomback and Zevin, promising a faithful yet cinematic translation of the source material.
