Author Tomi Adeyemi has declared she will "never" permit another one of her books to be adapted for the big screen after a distressing experience with the upcoming film version of "Children of Blood and Bone." Adeyemi, who previously described the adaptation process as "the worst thing I have ever had to live through" in a July TikTok video, detailed suffering panic attacks and somatic pain.
Adeyemi stated that speaking out was necessary for her to move forward. When asked about specific challenges, she alluded to the entire trilogy and adaptation journey feeling "biblical." She clarified that decisions made in the film adaptation, including casting, are not hers, unlike the granular control she has over her written work.
The film adaptation of Adeyemi's 2018 fantasy novel, directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood, is scheduled to premiere in U.S. theaters on January 15, 2027. It features a prominent cast, including Viola Davis and Idris Elba. Adeyemi has expressed no plans to watch the movie.
