Summary

- The track was co-written by his wife, Kathleen Brennan.

Veteran artist Tom Waits has released "The Fly," his second new musical offering of 2026. This spoken-word piece, dedicated to the common pest, is a collaborative family effort, co-written by his wife, Kathleen Brennan. Their son, Casey, contributed with an animated lyric video for the track.
"The Fly" is presented as the B-side to "Boots on the Ground," a protest song released earlier this year with Massive Attack. This release marks Waits' first new music since his 2011 album, "Bad as Me."
Both new songs will be featured on a special benefit vinyl 12-inch, scheduled for release on September 4. All proceeds generated from this vinyl will be directed towards supporting civil rights and community advocacy organizations.
Waits has also been involved in other recent projects, including a contribution to a tribute compilation for the late Shane McGowan. Furthermore, he is set to appear in Martin McDonagh's upcoming film, "Wild Horse Nine," debuting on November 6.
