Tom Holland has started dance rehearsals for his anticipated Fred Astaire biopic, a project he signed onto in late 2021. The "Spider-Man: No Way Home" actor recently shared his experience during an appearance on the "Good Hang with Amy Poehler" podcast. He revealed that he and choreographer, along with director Paul King, have begun preparatory dance sessions.
Holland confessed to feeling "petrified" about resuming dance after ceasing to dance following his run as one of the leads in London's West End production of "Billy Elliot the Musical" between the ages of 11 and 13. He admitted his initial apprehension, having told the director he could still dance.
During the rehearsal, Holland put on tap shoes for the first time in 15 years, finding the experience physically challenging. However, when a song from the stage musical played, his body recalled the choreography, easing his fears. This experience alleviated any doubts about undertaking the significant and "big risk" film.
In a separate interview with GQ, Holland indicated that filming for the untitled biopic is slated to commence in January 2027. He views revisiting dance, which he considers his biggest career regret to have abandoned, as a profoundly "fulfilling" endeavor.
