In just a few weeks, acclaimed actor Tom Hanks will take the stage in a new Off-Broadway play he co-wrote and stars in. Titled "This World of Tomorrow," the sci-fi romance drama is set to premiere on Oct. 30 at The Shed in New York City for an eight-week limited run through Dec. 21.
Hanks, who is 69 years old, will take on the lead role of Bert Allenberry in the play, performing alongside Tony Award winner Kelli O'Hara. The cast also features a talented ensemble, including Kerry Bishé, Kayli Carter, Paul Murphy, Jamie Ann Romero, Lee Aaron Rosen, Jay O. Sanders, Ruben Santiago-Hudson, Donald Webber Jr. and Michelle Wilson.
The play, which Hanks co-wrote with James Glossman, blends romance, history, and a touch of science fiction. It follows a lonely scientist from the future who travels back in time to the 1939 World's Fair in Queens in search of love. This marks Hanks's first stage role since his 2013 Broadway debut in "Lucky Guy," for which he received a Tony nomination.

Acclaimed director Kenny Leon, who had two hit revivals on the boards last season, is helming the new production. The Shed's artistic director, Alex Poots, expressed excitement about collaborating with Hanks on this "classic love story" that also nods to the global unrest brewing in 1939.
