He recalled taking his sister, Cass Mapother, who was six months pregnant at the time, for a ride at 200 miles per hour on the Daytona International Speedway. Cruise described the ride as thrilling, with his sister holding on tightly during the high-speed laps. He noted that such an occurrence would be highly unlikely on a film set today due to safety regulations.

Cruise is preparing to return to his role as NASCAR driver Cole Trickle in a sequel to the 1990 film. This new installment is scheduled for release on June 2, 2028, and will feature Anne Hathaway as a NASCAR team owner and engineer. Cruise expressed his enthusiasm for the project, having considered a return for his character for a long time. He shared his deep affection for NASCAR, racing, and high-speed activities, stemming from his youth before obtaining a driver's license.
