Tom Cruise is reportedly considering a new spy thriller titled 'Doppelgänger,' which could signal his return to the spy genre following the conclusion of the 'Mission: Impossible' series in 2025. While not officially confirmed, discussions are reportedly underway for Cruise to star in the project.
Sources suggest that Cruise is in talks with writer Aneesh Chaganty regarding 'Doppelgänger.' Skydance acquired the film's rights in June 2025. Cruise, renowned for portraying Ethan Hunt since the 1996 film, is expected to assess the final script before committing.
If Cruise joins, he is slated to play Veer, a CIA agent who discovers a Russian-recruited individual who perfectly resembles him. The plot thickens as more doppelgängers might emerge. Cruise also has another film, 'Digger,' slated for release later this year, though it is not a spy thriller.
