Tokyo Disneyland's Tomorrowland will be home to a significantly re-imagined Space Mountain, slated to open in 2027. This upcoming attraction is rumored to be Disney's most expensive ride to date, with construction commencing even before the original closed in July 2024. Recent footage offers a first look at the ride vehicles, which bear a strong resemblance to the Omnicoaster system used in Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind.
The Omnicoaster technology, developed by Disney Imagineering and Vekoma, enables vehicles to spin 360 degrees. This controlled rotation is designed to focus riders on specific show scenes, enhancing the storytelling experience. While sharing similarities with Cosmic Rewind, the new vehicles appear to have a lower profile and may include a tilted-up launch, a feature not present in its EPCOT counterpart.
