The 39th Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) is scheduled to take place from October 26 to November 4, 2026. The accompanying TIFFCOM market will operate from October 28-30. Both events will be held at their established venues in Tokyo, with TIFF's main sites in the Hibiya-Yurakucho-Marunouchi-Ginza area and TIFFCOM at the Tokyo Metropolitan Industrial Trade Center Hamamatsucho-Kan.
A call for entries will open on April 7, with more details available on TIFF's official website. The 2026 festival follows a successful 38th edition in late 2025, which attracted notable stars and introduced new initiatives like the Asian Students' Film Conference.
Japan's film industry is experiencing significant growth, evidenced by a record box office revenue of JPY274.45 billion ($1.79 billion) in 2025, a 32% increase from the previous year. This success was bolstered by films like 'Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - The Movie: Infinity Castle - Part 1.'
Adding to the excitement, the film 'Godzilla Minus Zero' is slated for release on November 3, 2026, coinciding with Godzilla Day and the penultimate day of the festival. TIFF is hosted by Unijapan, with TIFFCOM organized jointly by Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, and Unijapan.
