Tiny Papaya Seed's Incredible Journey Captivates Global Audiences

In October 2025, the animated film "Papaya" by Brazilian director Priscilla Kellen made its world premiere at the Rio Film Festival, captivating audiences with its unique storytelling. The dialogue-free animation follows the journey of a tiny papaya seed as it wanders through the Amazon forest, driven by a passion for flying and a desire to avoid taking root.

Through perseverance and determination, the seed discovers the strength of its own roots, triggering a transformation that reshapes its world in unexpected ways. Kellen's feature debut has now been acquired by Brussels-based company Best Friend Forever, which has secured the international distribution rights to the film. Additionally, French animation specialist label Gebeka Films has acquired the rights for the film's release in France next year.

Kellen, who has previously directed the TV series "Vivi Viravento" for Discovery Kids and worked as an assistant director on Alê Abreu's Oscar-nominated "The Boy and the World," said the story was born from her deep connection with nature and the idea of transformation. "I wanted to tell a story about movement, growth, and the courage to take root," she explained. With the support of Best Friend Forever and Gebeka, Kellen is confident that "Papaya" will reach hearts around the world.
