King Charles hosted a reception at St James's Palace to celebrate the UK's Nigerian diaspora, ahead of Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's upcoming state visit.
During the event, rapper Tinie Tempah humorously requested an invitation to visit the King's royal lands, inspired by Charles's environmental documentary. The King, who has visited Nigeria four times previously, engaged with various members of the community, including fashion designers and influencers.
The reception also served as a precursor to the state visit by President Tinubu and his wife, Oluremi Tinubu, on March 18-19. They will be hosted by King Charles and Queen Camilla at Windsor Castle, marking the first state visit by a Nigerian president in 37 years. Music for the event was provided by Dele Sosimi and the Afrobeats Orchestra, with whom the King shared a lighthearted exchange.
The King also interacted with representatives from Brand63 Africa, a social enterprise supporting African heritage fashion designers. When asked about eating Jollof rice, a traditional Nigerian dish served at the event, Charles quipped that he couldn't possibly eat and speak simultaneously.
